Do you ever see a place in your bathroom and wonder how it got so dirty? It’s probably because it didn’t cross your mind last time (or the time before that) you cleaned your bathroom. These are the Top 5 places that too often are overlooked and tend to get really dirty over time. Since you might not even know how to clean these areas, we provided it for you.
1. On Top of Ceiling Fan
Out of sight, out of mind? One of the most forgotten areas to clean is the top of the blades on your ceiling fan. That’s a lot of surface area for dust and dirt to land on, however, so this is a necessary job every so often.

How to Clean a Bathroom Ceiling Fan:
-Use step stool or ladder in order to reach fan
-To remove dust, use a dust rag or a Swiffer or Pledge duster
-Once dust is removed, apply a damp cloth with some soap or all-purpose cleaner to remove excess dirt
-Dry off if necessary
And for an even quicker solution, Apartment Therapy tells us to simply use a pillow case.
2. Light/Exhaust Fan Fixture
Different from the ceiling fan, this will require some unscrewing and taking down. You may not think of this because it sometimes just seems like part of the ceiling, but this area can attract a lot of dust.
How to Clean the Light/Exhaust Fan fixture:
-Turn off power in the room
-Unscrew fixture ( use stool if necessary)
-Remove the cover and all removable pieces inside
-Clean with all-purpose cleaner, or soap and water
-Replace fixture

This is another out of sight, out of mind location that can be a dust and dirt haven. Unless you have nothing but a frameless mirror over your sink, you have some sort of surface on the mirror, cabinet, or vanity that doesn’t get much love.
How to Clean Bathroom Vanity Top:
-Use stool or step ladder if needed to reach top of vanity/cabinet
-Remove dust with a dust rag
-If surface isn’t wood, wipe down with soap and water
-If surface is wood, wipe down with water and wood cleaner
4. Shower Corners
You know those corners. They are the corners of your shower opposite of the shower head, so these areas stay relatively dry. But since it’s your shower, you also don’t think of it as a hub of dirt and dust. Over enough time and with enough neglect, these annoying little corners can become exactly that.
How to Get Rid of Shower Grime in Corners:
-Clear out products & accessories from your shower
-Wipe down all areas with a dry cloth first
-To clean, use an all-purpose cleaner and reach into every corner and crevice
-To eliminate mildew or mold, use Ajax or shower cleaner and clean out every corner and crevice. You may need to let these substances sit for a while before scrubbing, so read label instructions carefully.
5. Under or around soap dish, toothbrush holder, other accessories
When was the last time you lifted up your soap dish or toothbrush holder on your bathroom counter? Can’t remember? Chances are, they need to be lifted up so you can clean underneath.
How to Remove Soap Scum from Soap Dish:
-Rinse off to remove excess soap and grime
-Use a natural cleanser, such as a vinegar and baking soda paste, to remove the soap scum
How to Clean Areas Around Soap Dish or Toothbrush Holder:
-Remove Soap Dish, Toothbrush Holder, Other Accessories
-Wipe down with dry cloth
-Use a countertop cleaner and water
