How to Create Space without Renovating

A Bathroom is a place of tremendous activity, and as a result there are both a lot of pieces to your bathroom (shower, sink, toilet, linen closet, etc…) and all the respective products and objects that go along with those pieces. Clutter and chaos are no strangers to the bathroom, and it’s only natural to feel cramped sometimes. There are measures that you can take, however, to minimize the clutter, and help create a more open, clear, and spacious environment for your bathroom.

1. Install Shower Accessories

Free up the space in and around your shower by installing a shower accessory, such as a corner shelf, that will keep all of your shampoos, soaps, razors, and anything else organized and in one place.

2. Organize Differently

If a shower accessory doesn’t suit you, consider moving all of your products to one location, like your bathroom closet. It might seem like a nuisance at first, but just grab items out of the closet for use in the shower or at the sink as needed, and put them back when finished.

For more organization and space saving, utilize these ideas from Better Home & Garden.

3. Utilize Space Vertically

If you feel like you’ve looked everywhere to no avail, look up! Evaluate the tops of surfaces like your linen closet or medicine cabinet. If the space allows, find a canvas basket that matches your bathroom and use it for storage on top of these surfaces. Keep a step stool around to reach that basket when needed.

4. Add a Mirror

Adding a mirror will create the feeling of space. Chances are your bathroom has at least one mirror over the sink. The trick will be finding space for another one. Maybe change out a picture or painting with a small mirror. The effect will be an added sense of depth, and better light. A decorative mirror with a trim that matches your bathroom will prove to be a nice touch design-wise, as well.

5. Re-paint

Another way to create the feeling of more space is to give your bathroom a new paint job. According to Freshome, “color has the power to change the shape and size of furnishings as well as the shape and size of the room itself” and “Light colors are expansive and airy, making rooms seem larger and brighter”. A lighter color could be just what the doctor ordered for a more spacious bathroom environment.

Using one or any combination of these ideas should be able to add a little free space to your bathroom, and as a result allow you to feel better about your bathroom.
